Curently Listening to : nothing

This is such a good film - dark and full of fantastia.

It’s about a girl, Ofelia who is believed to be the returning soul of a princess for an underworld. I know it sounds a bit complicated, but it isn’t. There are other plots going on as well, but pah you just got to see it for yourself.

It’s odd, I seem to have watched loads of foreign films lately  - and they’ve all been goodd.

Yeah I’m knackered, sod writing more.

Curently Listening to : Feeder - Bitter glass

This is one of those films that became a cult classic that I never got round to watching until now.

So yeah the background is that this is the future and there are machines that look like humans apart from their emotions. And Harrison Ford goes around ‘retiring’ them since they’re illegal on earth.

It was a very oddly paced film, and I don’t think you were allowed to get emotionally attached enough to the characters. I don’t know, this film didn’t do it for me - and I can imagine I’m going to be shot by fans everywhere for saying that But it really didn’t feel as good as people have made it out to be. I can think of more cult classic films that are better.

I think the book it’s based on would be loads better, and I get the idea about the themes and stuff the film raises.

A scanner darkly

Mood : knackered
Curently Listening to : Radiohead - Fog

“What does a scanner see? I mean, really see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does a passive infrared scanner … see into me — into us — clearly or darkly? I hope it does see clearly, because I can’t any longer these days see into myself. I see only murk. Murk outside; murk inside. I hope, for everyone’s sake, the scanners do better. Because if the scanner sees only darkly, the way I myself do, then we are cursed, cursed again and like we have been continually, and we’ll wind up dead this way, knowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.”

Love-love the animation, the rotoscoping is awesome and the movement is wonderful - not sure if I really really like the style, but it does bring a lot of character to this film. It just allows for so much more surreality that you can’t just get from live action.

Storyline wise, a bit confusing and head-messy if you’re not on the ball, quite weird but good, I can see how it would have got adapted from a quite in depth novel. Worth a watch I think. It’s essentially based in the future and is about drug addiction of something called Substance D. I would talk about it more but it’s just one of those films you just have to watch.

Plus it sports a many Radiohead tracked soundtrack, so that’s always winner right there.

Curently Listening to : Suede - The Asphalt world

Okay, so I’ve been consuming my time with watching lots and lots of films. Here we go…

Stardust - Was pretty good, nothing too cheesy, a nice little adventure film with a happy ending, charming, a typical fantasy happy ending adventure film

Princess Mononoke - I caught this on TV last night, it’s pretty ace in terms of symbolism and spirit stuff and so forth, pretty violent too. This is the third Studio Ghibli film I’ve seen now and I think I’ll place it second favourite to Howl’s moving castle.

I don’t know why I like it, maybe it’s the symbolism and meaning and the depth that lies within it.

Amelie - A rather cute sweet film, enchanting and endearing, about a girl who goes about changing the lives of the people around her, while unsure how to deal with her own.

A charming film with a character you can’t help but love.

So yeah, lots of films, okay maybe a film a night, but woo films. It’s weird how I can always think of films that I think yeah I need to see them. Then when it comes to a time when I can actually watch them, I can’t think of any! Though my choice is a bit limited of late, since I don’t fancy any horror, thriller, gore or random gun packed action stuff.

And I have pox in ma eye.

Sliding doors day

Mood : tired
Curently Listening to : Bjork - Hunter

There’s a phrase coined between me and Bob:  ‘doing a sliding doors’ - what does it mean? Seen the film sliding doors? Remember what the main character does in one version of events. She changes her life, gets a new haircut, a new job and so forth.

So yeah it’s been one of those days where I did a zillion things and I feel rather good about today and progress. I went to the dentist, which I was petrified at and came away thanking god that was over for another three months. Then I did some job hunting stuff in town before returning and then I had my trim, which I got annoyed at because the stylist just couldn’t get one thing right, now I have bits of hair that are shorter than I wanted :( and look stupid. Fortunately this was redeemed as my dying action was a success though the colours a bit dark/deep though that’s fine means will last longer and look cool once faded a bit.

PSU has been RMAed now, so tomorrow will be picked up. Ugh. Another two week wait for me then.

But overall despite the usual constant setbacks I’ve managed to do everything I needed to do today, apart from one thing…

THIS SODDING CV ARGHHHHHHhhhhh

Fortunately am not needed at work tomorrow it - woo another day to chug along with that. This is it, this is like the moment it all changes. You know that one event that is the start of a chain of events that lead to significant moments in your life? That’s this, right now, right here, do this CV - change your life, evolve.

I am doing a sliding doors. Yes I am.

Mood : lively
Curently Listening to : Manic Street Preachers - the second great depression

This is one of those films I’ve been meaning to watch for ages but just never got round to it, as expected from other people’s reactions/thoughts to it, it is a very good film. Though when I first heard of the storyline I thought it would be a no brainer killing gore fest, but it wasn’t like that at all - there’s a bit of eerie substance to it.

Yeah good film, watch it if you don’t mind school children killing each other.

I still don’t understand why the BR act was passed though, maybe it was the translation of the subs of the version I was watching, but it didn’t make sense.

Plus it did make me wonder, what would you do in a situation like that? Forced to die or kill your friends? Or would you prevail to find the alternative solution of freedom?
